Lakewood City Schools are Closed Wednesday Oct. 31

Power outages and dangerous walking conditions were blamed for the closure.

Classes for the Lakewood City Schools have been canceled for Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Lakewood City Schools Superintendent Jeff Patterson made the decision to cancel classes at around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, said district spokeswoman Christine Gordillo.

According to a news release, the district canceled classes “due to power outages at some of our buildings and dangerous walking conditions for students.”

"There are still a lot of lines down and places where kids can't pass," said Gordillo.

Power remains out at Hayes, Emerson and Grant elementary schools, as well as Harding Middle School, she added.

Because of the hurricane that tore through the area, classes were also canceled on Tuesday.
