Homeowners Recognized for Preserving Historic Lakewood Homes

Lakewood Historic Preservation awards were given out for several different categories.

This home, at 15731-33 Lake Avenue, won the Sympathetic Addition category. Built 1924. This two-family house was built for Robert E. Donaldson, who lived on West 114th Street just south of Detroit Avenue. By occupation, he was a guard. Lakewood Heritage Advisory Board

This building, at 15701-07 Madison Avenue, was recognized in the Commercial Revitalization category. The work included removing wood panels covering the transom and piers, replacing the storefront windows, and redesigning the bulkheads.
This home, at 17836 Clifton Boulevard, was honored in the Rehabilitation category. Exterior rehabilitation work included the construction of a new garage and complete painting of the house.
Also recognized for rehabilitation was this home at 1104 Forest Road. Exterior rehabilitation work included removing the stoop, installing a full-width front porch, new roof, gutters and downspouts and painting.
Built in 1906, the 1104 Forest Road house was built for Marie and James H. Dunbar.  He was a civil/mechanical engineer at the Grasselli Chemical Co.
In the New Porch Construction category was this home at 1082 Wilbert Road.
The new rear porch connected to the house at the left and the doorway was removed.

On Monday, at the Lakewood City Council meeting, 12 properties in the city were honored by the Lakewood Heritage Advisory Board.
