GetGo Getting Done on Schedule

The plans for the property at the busy intersection call for a 5,600-square-foot brick building, with 16 pumps.

Don’t look now, but the construction of the new GetGo gas station on Detroit Avenue and Bunts Road is almost finished.

The plans for the gas station at the busy intersection call for a 5,600-square-foot brick building, with eight fueling stations (16 pumps).

The GetGo station — unlike the Pennsylvania-based company’s typical gas station — will offer a few grocery items, prepared foods, a patio and a Wi-Fi café.

The site will also feature bio-retention landscaping, helping to alleviate the city’s storm water management issues, a move lauded by city officials.

The project didn’t come without criticism from neighbors.

Giant Eagle sold its property across the street at 14013 Detroit Avenue to Urban Active in 2007. However, plans at the site to build a workout facility never came to fruition.

The building had been vacant since 2007, when Giant Eagle finished its move across the street to 14100 Detroit Avenue.

It was demolished in September.

how about some conclusive reporting such as announcing the proposed opening date....if it is on schedule dont you think the public would like to know when this will happen? what about describing a bio retnetion area...what the heck is that? lame job guys....

Lame and typical. Of course, when the staff cuts come down from the Patch corporate office, I guarantee they'll overlook the obvious.

My name is Chris Olsen and I can't use google to look up 'bio retention.'

Asking to explain what bio retention is in an update about the building of a gas station would be like asking 'what is gasoline and how does it work?' since it was referenced in the article.

Does anyone know what's happening with the GetGo building and lot that's currently across the street from the PNC? I asked the staff and they don't know.

I have been wondering the same thing. The city should have insisted that property be part of the plan. Clear if for green space, but do something.

It will be for sale. Someone may buy it; use it as a gas station or demolish it and do something else.

Maybe Ralph of Ralph's Sunoco will buy it back. He owned it for many years.
