Extended Hours for Dunkin’ Donuts Approved

Both of the Dunkin’ Donuts locations in Lakewood have opened at 4:30 a.m. every morning — an hour-and-a-half earlier than allowed by the city code.
When city officials found out, they required the franchise to get approval for a conditional use permit from the Lakewood Planning Commission on Thursday.
The commission obliged.
“I believe this is an effort to ask for forgiveness as well as permission,” said Ward 1 city councilman David Anderson, who attended the meeting on Thursday.
He said the only concern he’s heard is the additional traffic on Detroit Avenue as a result of the business on the west side of town.
“The conditional use is an extra tool in our toolbox,” added Anderson.
The planning commission has the option to review the permit should any issues arise.
“We haven’t received any significant complaints,” said Dru Siley, the city’s director of planning and development.

I didn't realize the city had such a code. I am in favor of having businesses extended...I keep different hours and find myself going to the mcdonalds on warren for my early morning breakfast...would like to spend more of my money here in lakewood

They are always worried about the west side of town.
Funny they can't see that the east side's issue are much more pressing the a minor traffic jam.

You wouldn't want any store to be open 24 hours if you lived next to it. The restrictions Lakewood has protects residents and property values.

I agree Barbara. First and foremost it IS residential. I know there has been increased traffic going south on Spring Garden. A no right turn should be implemented and enforced at the west end location.

My Message is that the East Side (not just 117) of Lakewood needs attention due to increased crime and drug dealing activity going on.

The gov't dictating when a business can open or close is absurd. Residential or not. Staying open will actually reduce crime. If you don't like the traffic then why the hell would you move to Lakewood? Property values in Lakewood are a joke anyway so it can't hurt in my opinion. Like I said just my opinion. No need to get huffy!

To me it is business 101 more time for business more revenue. More businesses in Lakewood more tax revenue and the less I have to worry about the city raising my taxes. If you do not want the convenience of a city move to Berlin Hts. I like having the option to buy my coffee and donuts at 4am!! I live right by a factory it was there when I purchased my home. Why would I dictate when they can operate.
