CSU Fencer Finishes Standout Season at NCAA Championship

Westlake native John Cuturic made it all the way to Notre Dame University for the 2013 NCAA Midwest Regional Fencing Championships.

Cleveland State University foilist John Cuturic capped off a standout season of swordplay with his performance at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships at Notre Dame University on March 9.

Cuturic, of Westlake, didn't have enough victories to advance to the national championships, but he came away with a 13-5 record against some of the best foilists in the country, West Life News reports.

Cuturic's 2013 season highlights include going undefeated at the Case Western University duals (15-0) and finishing 14-4 at the CSU duals.

Cuturic also had 16 more wins during this regular season (59-43) versus last.

Cuturic, a junior at CSU, is currently ranked an "E 2011" by the United States Fencing Association and trains at Cyrano’s Place Fencing Club in Lakewood.
