Copper thieves target CEI substations

The theft of copper wiring — while never out of vogue — has become increasingly common as the value of copper rises.

Lakewood Police Chief Tim Malley recently commented that the most common targets for copper theft in Lakewood is vacant homes.

However, a copper thief (or thieves) recently pilfered a more audacious target in the city.

On Friday, Lakewood police learned that thieves had stolen copper from the CEI power substations on West Clifton and Bunts roads.

Opportunistic steals running car

Lakewood police are also investigating the theft of a motor vehicle that occurred Monday evening in the 1600 block of Warren Road.

A father was picking up his child from a friend's house and had left his car running in the driveway when somebody stole it.

Menacing call at hotel makes it hard to get any sleep

A man called Lakewood Police Monday to say that he had received threatening calls while staying at the Days Inn on the room phone.

The caller had tried to get personal information from the man, he said.

Police spoke with the Days Inn; and they said that they were aware of someone harassing their guests over the phone, and they were addressing it at a corporate level.
