Demolition began on a city-owned apartment building at the corner of Franklin and Lakewood Avenues on Tuesday.

It took just several hours to demolish the structure, which had been deemed a nuisance property two years ago.

The demolition was a part of a cooperative effort between the city and the Cuyahoga County Land Bank.

Mayor Michael Summers even took the opportunity to take a seat in the bulldozer, and get his hands dirty.

He said that the property at 1549 Lakewood Avenue would likely be turned into a pocket park.

There are as many as eight other city-owned nuisance properties waiting to be demolished.
