City Council: Smoking Ban in Parks; Right Turns on Red; Gaming Cafés

Tonight’s regular council meeting features a few ordinances, with up or down votes expected.

Lakewood City Council is set to vote tonight on a few issues — including a smoking ban in all of Lakewood’s parks, an ordinance amending the rules on right-turn-on-red signs and the possible extension of a moratorium on Internet gaming cafés.

The proposed smoking ban and the right-turn ordinances were both introduced earlier this year.

And this isn’t the first time council has seen an ordinance banning Internet gaming cafés.

In 2010, with at least one computer game center knocking on the door, Lakewood City Council passed a 6-month moratorium to sort out the issue — hoping that state legislation would be in place banning the establishments.

Since then, council has passed a couple of extensions.
