Ceremony Set in Lakewood for Troops Coming Home from War in Afghanistan
Event to take place at noon at the Lakewood Civic Auditorium.
More than 180 soldiers are coming home from the war in Afghanistan tomorrow — and the community is encouraged to give them a welcome homecoming in Lakewood.
The troops — with the 112th Engineer Battalion of Brook Park — are returning home from a yearlong deployment in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
According to a press release, the soldiers arrive at Cleveland Hopkins Airport on Friday morning and will have an escort up Brookpark Road and into Lakewood, where there will be a ceremony at the Lakewood Civic Auditorium around noon.
The unit is made up of a special task force to clear roads in Afghanistan. In the unit of more than 750 soldiers — from National Guard units from four states — eight were killed and 105 were wounded in action.

I went to Lakewood HS today to register my daughter, we just moved here on the 4th. I'm a Disabled Veteran & when I heard Troops were coming home, I just had to stay & feel what it's like to come home from a war cuz I didn't have a homecoming. At this point my daughter was getting irritable from the heat & wanted to go home. Lakewood FD was prepping the American flag & I'm soso glad I was able to video it! Then the Police & Veteran Motorcade escorted the 4 buses of our Heroes, yess, another video, then had to stop cuz the tears were obstructing my view to continue. My daughter's eyes were welling up just watching these Heroes embracing their loved ones they haven't seen in a year....she tells me, "thank you mom for this, I never seen this in person, it makes me cry & I'm very happy they are home for their families."
