Police Blotter: Two Robberies in One Day

The following information was supplied by the Lakewood Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Two Robberies in One Day

Two robberies were reported in Lakewood on Wednesday.

In the first incident, a woman told police she was robbed behind John’s Diner on Detroit Avenue at around 1 a.m.

She said that the man — described as a white male in his mid-twenties, wearing a dark hoodie — knocked her down and took her purse. She didn’t say whether he had a weapon. She said when she got off the bus, the man told her he had been stabbed and needed help.

That’s when he robbed her.

The woman returned from work later in the day and found her purse on the front porch. The report didn’t say whether her items had been taken.

The other robbery took place at the Star Mart on Madison Avenue at around 7:45 p.m. A man told police that two white males — between the ages of 17 to 19 — wearing sweatshirts and ski masks robbed him at gunpoint.

Just last week, a woman was robbed at gunpoint on Ramona Avenue as she was walking to work.

Fight outside the fire station

Two men were charged with disorderly conduct after they were fighting outside of Fire Station No. 2 on Detroit Avenue at around 2:30 a.m. Jan. 13.

Man and woman each faces drug charges

A man was charged with driving under suspension and drug paraphernalia and a woman was charged with drug abuse following a traffic stop in the 14400 block of Madison Avenue at around 2 a.m. Jan. 14.

Vandalism by spray-paint

A van was reported spray-painted at the Westwood Dry Cleaners around 5 p.m. Jan. 14.

Man caught with his pants down

A man was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after he passed out with his pants down at the bus stop in front of the YMCA at around 3:30 a.m. Jan. 15.

Dogs reported missing

A resident in the 17000 block of Hilliard Road reported his two dogs — black lab mix, named Bunny, and a black and white mutt, named Winston — were missing at around 8 p.m. Jan. 15.

What a great place Lakewood has turned up to be!
Have lived in Lakewood for over 15 years. If I could sell my home I would leave NOW!
Thank you Lakewood for Section 8, high property taxes and such nice landlords!
Cannot wait to get out. Lakewood resident.

Yeah...because everyone on Section 8 is a criminal. Let me guess, you post on cleveland.bomb, too?

Have fun in Westlake, Avon, Strongsville, North Ridgeville, Brunstucky, etc with the rest of the intolerant, racist, homophobic, anti-intellectual bigots.

Nicole, do you actually believe that there is a place on earth that you can escape to that doesn't have crime? And why would you believe that the muggers/robbers came from a local Lakewood neighborhood anyway? Anyone can come in from another city and commit crimes here. It has nothing to do with Section 8 properties in Lakewood. Most likely those people are too busy working their asses off at multiple low-paying jobs and trying to feed their families. Notice the ages of these criminals. In the report it said one looked about mid-twenty and the other two were between 17 and 19. These are foolish young men who don't work. That's true of most criminals. There's no where you can go to escape foolish (and dangerous) young people who don't want to work for a living. It can happen anywhere.

This is how you choose to point out intolerance and ignorance? By making an intolerant and ignorant statement? Really? You told her didn't you?

Nicole, we shouldn't be so quick to panic. Any crime is alarming, but police stress that the number of robberies in the city actually decreased in 2011 from 2010 — by more than 15.
