Bites Nearby: Bistro on Lincoln Park
A trip to Tremont for Sunday Brunch makes this diner want to return for dinner.
Lincoln Park, in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland, is surrounded by residences, restaurants and churches, it has a large playground and an expansive grassy area peppered with tall trees and park benches.
The Bistro on Lincoln Park is right across the street, on the corner of W. 11th Street and Kenilworth Avenues.
In true café style, there are small tables out on the sidewalk and, for those who want to escape the summer swelter, the large windows inside provide natural light and views of the park — all in air-conditioned comfort.
The dining rooms are intimate and almost have a Scandinavian feel, with their use of clean lines, blonde woods and an all-over tidy, spare appearance — tables are draped with crisp white cloths, set traditionally with sparkling glasses and shining flatware.
The servers are chic in all-black.
The brunch menu is reasonable in length, but it covers all the bases: There is lighter fare like yogurt, fruit and oatmeal, and then the more substantial items — sweet pancakes with or without fruit/nut/chocolate chip embellishments or savory egg options with breakfast meats, of course, and then a few extras like Crab Cake Benedict and a Bistro Lamb Burger. The plates are designed beautifully; the food is piping hot; the prices range from $7 to $11.
The French Toast is made from bias-cut baguette slices soaked in cinnamon-scented custard, cooked until golden brown then sprinkled with powdered sugar and a generous dollop of whipped butter. The Steak & Eggs are eggs your way, tender hanger steak slices and flavorful hash browns.
The Homemade Biscuit Sandwich comes on a large, fluffy biscuit with melted cheddar cheese over eggs your way, smoky ham and those delicious hash browns.
This restaurant definitely has a bistro feel to it, with smaller tables and an up-to-date menu, but they aren’t afraid to pull tables together to accommodate a larger group — it would be a great space to have a party.
Peeking in at the Bistro’s other menus I have noticed items that will draw me back for other service times: $6 Loaded Tater Tots with bacon, smoked cheddar, scallions and crème fraîche on the Happy Hour menu; Prime Boneless Short Ribs with Bordelaise, creamy polenta, Brussels sprouts, Killbuck Valley mushrooms and caramelized onions, $21, on the dinner menu...
And Tuesday through Friday they have 20 bottles of wine available for $20... Sunday Brunch may just be the icing on the cake.
The Bistro on Lincoln Park takes credit cards, reservations are available via OpenTable, there is street parking only.
