Best Place to Eat Breakfast: This Week's Readers' Choice
Your nominations wanted: Where do you like to go out to breakfast?
If you're going out to breakfast, you want to make the right choice. After all, it's the most important meal of the day.
You want a fluffy pancake, not a flat one. You want coffee immediately and plenty of it. You want your bacon cooked just right. And, of course, you want friendly service.
Beginning today -- Monday, March 26 and through 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 28 -- we'll be asking for your recommendations of the best places to take the family out to eat.
Give us your recommendation in the comments section below. With your help, we'll put together a list of nominees. Then look for our poll on Thursday, March 29 and vote! We'll select a winner at 5 p.m. March 30 and announce it in a story on Saturday, March 31.
In judging, we'll consider comments, poll votes and reviews in Patch Places, our complete directory of local businesses. Be sure to check out our contest rules in the PDF at right.

The Shore. Located in a well-preserved bulding that they own, this is a family-run restaurant. Angelo cooks up great potatoes, and eggs that are done just as you request. Tina and son Mike provide quick, friendly service. The interior is nothing fancy, but it's clean, has a counter with stools, and is reminiscent of a diner from the 60s. I discovered it a couple of years ago, and have been going there for breakfast nearly once a week since.

I totally second The Shore - my favorite place in town to have breakfast! The food is wonderful and fast, the family who runs it are very friendly and warm and chatty with the customers - the atmosphere of the place is so welcoming and friendly. Prices are good, and the coffee is great! These kind of places are a disappearing breed.

The Shore. Definitely. Tina keeps the place absolutely immaculate and both Tina and Angelo are fun to speak with. This place is a treasure.

Without a doubt "The Place to Be" on Warren Road, Lakewood. Super fast, accurate service, very friendly and competitively priced. My son and I eat there once a week and I wish we could go more. Have tried other places but for the above reasons ALWAYS come back to "The Place to Be" as the others can't top them! Love, love that place!

It would have to be "The Place to Be". Wonderful breakfasts, great service and you can't go in without seeing someone you know. My college and high school age kids have grown up going there and it is now the place they choose to go with their friends for breakfast.

John's Diner...belly up to the counter and have the best corned beef hash in town. The waitresses still use the "Old School" shout out orders like, "Adam and Eve on a raft".

Hands down, The Coffee Pot on Madison! Donald and Jozie make the best home fries in town. The steak and eggs are a fantastic deal and taste great too! Donald works nights at Parallax, the guy knows how to cook!

I've had not so good experience at the Coffee Pot. The lady with the glasses never smiled and rarely talked to us and didn't seem very friendly. That happened a couple times.

So far, everyone has forgotten about Borderline on the west end of Detroit. Great southwest touch to the menu, several "healthy choices",and the regular breakfast fare. The ladies there are great. Busy to the point that you may have to wait for a table, but worth it.

Also for great coffee and a croissant try Blackbird, at Detroit and Sloane.

One more time, for the vegetarian and vegan lovers there is The Root Cafe. Great coffee, lattes, their own blended teas and more. On Detroit near the Exchange. Really love the Happy Belly tea.

The Root Cafe in Lakewood. The most organic, locally supportive, and health-conscious menu, and friendliest establishment known to man.

Never had any problems at The Coffee Pot, other than it being closed on Mondays! The Shore is right by me, they do not have seating for groups over 6 so we do not eat there.

It has to be The Place to Be. I will have to check a few spots mentioned here, though. Already missing Two Dads-- just around the corner from my house.
I do want to give a nod to Dunkin Donuts, if you are a "coffee to go" breakfast person-- terrific brew every time.

Looking for good food, great prices and nostalgia... Then you gotta visit "Johns Diner". The food is good, the prices are great and its a throw back to the days when your dad would take ya to the the diner on a Saturday morning! My daughter and I love going there and grabbing our favorite booth or just sitting at the counter reading the paper and listening to the waitresses yelling out orders to the short order cooks. Its a classic!

A Place to Be for the best service, friendly and FAST!! I have not been to The Shore, it is not far from my house, but it looks so tiny that I have never stopped in. I will give them a try this weekend.

The Shore is at 12009 Detroit. But I also love Borderline's Southwest omelet---their salsa is unbelievably delicious. Root has great breakfast now, too, and the coffee is the best. How lucky we are in Lakewood to have so many great choices....

There is simply no contest. The Shore is head and shoulders above. Great menu, comparable to any in Lakewood. What makes it stand out is the price. We switched from that establishment at Detroit and Warren for this reason. And the owner/operation is superb, I was a Great Northern Mall and they came over to say high to me.
