Best Place in Town to Hear Live Music: Readers' Choice

Be it a rock 'n' roll band, solo violinist or jazz trio, live music energizes your outing.

There is no music like live music ... a live performance can be the background to a pleasant dinner or the focal point of an evening out.

This week we want to know: where in town is the best place to hear live music? Is there a restaurant with strolling mariachi band? Or perhaps a harpist that plays at tea. Or maybe a rollicking rock venue that's a great place to socialize.

Beginning today -- Sunday, May 20 -- and through 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, we'll be asking for your recommendations for places to hear live music.

Give us your recommendation in the comments section below. With your help, we'll put together a list of nominees. Then look for our poll on Thursday, May 24 and vote! We'll select a winner at 5 p.m. Friday, May 25 and announce it in a story on Saturday, May 26.

In judging, we'll consider comments, poll votes and reviews in our complete directory of local businesses. Be sure to check out our contest rules in the PDF at right.

Unfortunately, my favorite place for music in Lakewood has just closed down - Bela Dubby. Hoping perhaps Mahall's can pick up where they left off..

The Screaming Rooster has live music 3 nights every week, sometimes 4. There's a weekly jam every Tuesday night, hosted by Jack Charlton & Josh Stevens, where everyone is welcome to come play. And there is live music every Friday & Saturday night, ranging from Blues to Rock to Rockabilly to Bluegrass to Jazz, and more.
