One lucky refugee family will get a shot at the American Dream in Lakewood.

That's thanks to a new partnership between the Cuyahoga County Land Bank and the International Services Center to provide housing to immigrants.

Along with the city officials in attendance, the organizations unveiled the pilot project Wednesday at 1443 Hopkins Avenue in Lakewood — the first location of the program.

The home still needs some work, but it’s expected to be completed by the time a refugee family arrives by the end of January.

Several more homes — provided by the Land Bank — in Cuyahoga County will be used in the program, officials said.

Admittedly this is exciting to me. It's like the time in elementary or high school when a new foreign student joins your class, well after the start, doesn't speak more than a few words of English and they are surrounded by a bunch of young Americans.
I always enjoyed getting to hear about the difference in cultures and the way they were raised.
This happened to me in 6th grade when a Polish family moved to town and their daughter joined my class. Her name was Anna.
One of the most memorable things a teacher has ever said to me, and one that I think about all the time, is that "a smile means the same thing in every language".
The same can be said here.
Thanks Mrs. Jacques
