56 West Closes, ‘StrEat Burger’ to Open in its Place
But don’t fret; a new restaurant is opening in its place following an extensive renovation.
The popular 56 West served its last burger on Detroit Avenue, closing its doors earlier this week.
But don’t fret; a new restaurant is opening in its place following an extensive renovation.
Izzy Schachner and Jay Leitson partners in the popular food truck StrEat Mobile Bistro are opening a brick-and-mortar establishment in the space at 16300 Detroit Avenue.
Street Burger is expected to open in April.
“We are going to be turning it a new concept,” said Schachner, adding that he’d like to keep a lid on many of the details.
“It’s going to be great.”
Meanwhile, construction crews have been working all week on the build-out of the new restaurant.
Clarification: The owner of 56 West, Don Farone, will not be a partner in the new venture.

56 West was my favorite burger joint in Cleveland... I hope the new partnership has a lot of success in our city. Stay local, Lakewood!

i really hope this city gets aggressive for a new tenant in the five guys space.....all that build out on that building for it to stay empty is a sin.....

Welcome Izzy. Can't wait to support you.
Chris, I agree but I'm certain it will fill soon. Lakewood is a destination now. The whole City is piratically a food district. Fingers crossed it's not a chain.

Well, yes, a food district downtown for the burger/pizza crowd. Why can't this city get some good Asian downtown? Or how about something like Vegeterrean that closed in Akron?(why it thought it could be successful in Akron, well, Ms. Hynde....)
PLEASE lets try to get some healthy choices downtown Lakewood - enough of the meat thing. AND yes, how about some hipper/urban style decor - I mean it is 2013, not the 1990s. It is amazing when one travels to Chicago, SF, NYC, Phillie, and I mean, even Columbus, and their restaurants have up to date decor and not this retro/all wood/ all dark inside style that seems soooooooo popular here in aging NE Ohio.

Was it really that popular? Only went in once, on a Saturday night to grab pickup, and I think there was one couple inside. Burgers were great, though.

We liked the food. The service was friendly and efficient, but the decor was bleak. I hope their new concept is a success.

My favorite Burger spot in Lakewood as well - 56 West will be missed. However, I am happy that another reputable independent establishment will open in the space. All the best to the new venture!

56 West was a good idea in the beginning but the food at the Sunday brunch became very tastless and poorly prepared. The manager really didn't care much and resented any criticism. A change in menu would have saved it. We would go in there towards the end and we were the only people in there. There must be a reason for this!.
